All right, Gentle Readers, we’ve all had a great time discussing double standards and over/under generalizing and sometimes agreeing, but mostly disagreeing. It’s been a raging party here at Twas Brillig. Thanks for all of your comments. While there were some vehement disagreements, I think in the end we all still like each other. At least, I still like all of you!
So, good crap. Let’s not talk about it anymore. (Okay, if you must, you’re welcome to continue the conversation below… I just mean that I won’t be POSTING about it anymore.)
Moving on…
I’m the youngest child in my family. I have three older sisters and two older brothers. My siblings are good people and I admire them all. (Though, of course, only ONE of them actually has the link to this blog. The others are blissfully unaware of its existence!)
Being the youngest had its perks. I got to travel a lot more than some of my siblings did, and by the time I was a teenager my parents had real money, instead of doing that “barely scraping by” thing that they’d done with my siblings. My parents began spoiling themselves, and I suppose I was “spoiled” (according to my siblings) somewhere along the way.
Of course, it also had its downfalls. My oldest siblings were each given cars as teenagers. Thanks to their total recklessness and irresponsibility, I wasn’t even allowed to touch the family cars. Plus, all those years of being alone with good ol’ mom and dad after my siblings had left home were… tricky. What my siblings call “spoiled” I would call something more like demanded, scrutinized, attacked, and constantly berated for not being quite perfect enough… There was no one to distract them from the magnifying glass they had centered right above me–and it was frying me alive.
The other big downfall of being the youngest, of course, is that by the time you come along, your parents are bored with taking pictures. You can kind of understand this. I mean, I was the fourth daughter, sixth child. They’d wasted all their film on my oldest siblings. When I came along, I was nothing new. So while there are hundreds, nay, THOUSANDS of pictures of my sister Laura, I can’t seem to find any of me.
Too bad, cuz I bet I was one gorgeous baby. I weep for a world that doesn’t have pictures of me readily available.
So, how can I make it up to the universe? Well, I can start by not repeating the sins of the fathers. And so, I present to you MY youngest–who from this day forward, I solemnly vow to feature prominently in photographs!
Here he is–my 10-month-old Fuzzles, helping me with the dishes last night. SUCH a helper…

He looks a lot more like his dad than like me–they all do. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find any of me in any of them. (And yet, I distinctly remember squeezing them forth from my loins.) I’m okay with that, though. I mean, their dad’s hot, so how lucky for the kids that they all look like him!
Other memorable photos of Fuzzles include this one, where he was having his chest x-rayed when he was hospitalized for RSV. Have you ever seen how they do x-rays on teeny babies? They shoved him into a little tiny plastic tube and strapped his arms straight up. Let’s just say that he wasn’t thrilled with this arrangement. Brace yourselves…
He had a pretty nasty case of RSV and was in the hospital for a week. Here he is towards the end of his stay (clearly the end, because he’s no longer attached to IV’s and oxygen tanks and monitors–I have pictures of that stuff too, but it’s still a bit too horrifying to me) in his hospital gown. I still can’t get over his little baby hospital gown!
Obviously we can’t forget his first Halloween, right? He wasn’t quite 2 months old at this point.

And, okay. Just one more. Here he is when I was setting him up to be the new monarch of the family (as explained here). He’d really make a lovely monarch, don’t you think?
And there he is, Gentle Readers. The most gorgeous baby that ever crawled the planet. And I can say that because, naturally, I’m completely unbiased.
Now, of course, I won’t be ignoring the other kids. But I can’t feature them all today–I mean, the brain can only process so much gorgeousness before it becomes overwhelmed and begins causing twitching and seizures.
Really, I’m only looking out for your well-being, Gentle Readers.

Yes. Truly gorgeous.

Thanks, JJ!

Oh that cutie!
Pictures worked out well in our family: by the time I had my third pregnancy and should have been tired of taking photos, I had TWINS. The novelty value meant there were probably MORE pictures of those two babies than of my first two. Then, between the twins and this most recent baby, we got a digital camera. The fun of THAT (and the greater number of successful photos) mean this baby probably has the most photos of all.
————-
Yeah, the digital revolution is definitely one of the reasons that Fuzzles will be photographed so much, for sure! When I get around to featuring Fluffy on this blog of mine, I’ll have to SCAN the pics in, because there’s nothing digital of her babyhood!

Okay, I had this really brilliant comment, then your word verification basically called me a terrorist and erased it. Shoot.
Now I don’t fee like re-typing it. I was clever gosh darn it. That doesn’t happen everyday.
July 12, 2007 at 11:30 am
Oh my gosh! Adorable!!
The x-ray one is tough to look at – poor, poor baby!
July 12, 2007 at 11:32 am
Guess what just happened to me. I typed up a lengthy and heartfelt response (I’m not kidding) and when I typed in the effing word verification, it said WRONG! and erased my message! I’m mad now.
July 12, 2007 at 11:34 am
Uh… Okay. The word verification was on a trial run and… apparently it’s not exactly friendly. Sorry, all. I didn’t know it would erase your comment if you got it wrong! So, I’m turning it off now….
To those of you whose comments were erased, won’t you try again? See? I’m turning it off!

Your boy has the bluest eyes! What a cutie!!
My youngest was hospitalized for jaundice and a bit later for RSV…but I don’t have any pictures of it because it was so scary to me. I’m just a little bit jealous of the photo of the baby in the xray equipment…but only a bit. They did that to my daughter and then they still didn’t get it right and wanted to put her back in it just to double check this one spot. I told them forget it and ran out of there with her.
But other than that I don’t think any of my kids will suffer from underphotographeditisness…that at least won’t come up in the therapy sessions.
July 12, 2007 at 11:56 am
Well the thing is that what I said was very sad and would have probably made you cry, so it’s better left unsaid. I’ve discovered that when what I say gets lost, then SOMEONE OUT THERE wanted me to not say it. Cause then if I force it, it turns out bad. But it still sucks!
Thanks for turning off that thing, though! Man, that was a bummer, especially since I turned mine off for you!
But yeah, thanks for sharing the Fuzzles with us. He’s just darling. And broke my heart entirely to see him stretched out in that x-ray thing. Reminded me of when my little daughter was hospitalized and….. oh well, that is the story that got properly deleted. Because see! She’s fine now and no need to cry over those days!
My mother used to compare me to my very perfect older sister. I would cheerfully respond with, “Well I’m not her, am I?” and then bound off to enjoy myself. She would just stand there speechless because I’m sure I was supposed to cry and say I would try harder, etc etc etc. I’ve never been any good at doing what I was supposed to do.

My DH is the youngest of only two, and there aren’t many pictures of him when he was a wee one. It’s funny how that happens.
Your little guy is ADORABLE! What gorgeous eyes!
July 12, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Yes he is gorgeous! And you are funny : )
July 12, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I am already guilty of not taking enough pics of Shel. I’m going to go get the camera right now!
And you may be biased, but he is one adorable baby!
July 12, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Ooooh…I shuddered when I saw the x-ray machine! EVIL! I forget what it was really called, but the x-ray tech called it the “Barney Baby Flying Machine”. Yeah, that worked…NOT! My daughter had bout after bout with bronchitis and had to go in that thing several times as an infant. I can still hear the shrieking!
July 12, 2007 at 1:30 pm
What a cutie pie! Thanks for sharing.
I am trying to get as many pics of #4 but it’s not easy. Video is hard for me too. I have hours and hours of #1 sleeping and hiccuping.
July 12, 2007 at 1:35 pm
The only thing I can relate to is the no pictures thing. My dad was #5 of 6 and has 2 pictures of his childhood. I can’t imagine what #6 got. Oh and having your child get an x-ray as an infant. Da Girl has a heart murmur and has had many. When she turned 4 it got so much better.
But other than that…well I’m the oldest, and all I’ve got to say to you, the youngest, is “waa-waa-waa!” There I feel better. Do you feel like you’re talking to one of your older siblings?;)
July 12, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Such a cutie. Poor thing hospitalized for RSV. How old way he?
Love the new nickname, btw.
July 12, 2007 at 2:12 pm
Awww so cute! He looks SO much like Fluffy did at that age!
July 12, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Wow…I mean, my kids are cute and all, but he’s gorgeous!
I’m so pulling out my camera this afternoon – thanks for the inspiration!
July 12, 2007 at 3:01 pm
I LOVE baby photographs, and I especially love photographs of beautiful babies. LOOK at those blue eyes!!!! My heart is melting. Bless his heart, I’ll bet he’s not fond of hospitals is he? He looks like he came through with flying colors. Again I have to say it, What a doll!!
July 12, 2007 at 3:06 pm
I admire your stamina. Like your parents, we were camera hotshots with the first and dropped off steadily with the other two. Even worse, I kept a diary with the oldest and recorded every single thing she said. Same thing happened. The youngest, according to my jottings, said nothing worthwhile until she was five and she’s just beginning to realise the scale of my deficiencies. How bad do I feel?
July 12, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Is he Yoda?
July 12, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Adorable!
And 2 weeks ago my Baby J had the same xray for the same reason. He just looked at me as if to say ‘Mom? WHY are you letting them do this to me’ – hmm – more guilt
Cool that they have that tube though – can you imagine trying to get them to sit still with their arms up?
July 12, 2007 at 6:17 pm
He’s adorable. And he does look like his HOT daddy.
July 12, 2007 at 6:43 pm
He really is dang blasted adorable. Nice job with the genetics.
July 12, 2007 at 10:31 pm
My baby is 9 1/2 months- they must be close in age? She was born 9-25-06. Anyway, he is beautiful. Good thing baby Marin is in bed or we’d have an internet romance on our hands! =)
July 12, 2007 at 10:33 pm
He’s absolutely adorable.
(By the way, I’m the youngest in my family too — third child. There are TONS of pictures of my big sister. I got half as many, maybe even less than that.)
July 13, 2007 at 4:20 am
he is lovely indeed!!!! He looks very, very boyish. I bet he’s never mistaken for a girl??!!
I was going to comment (brilliantly, of course!) on your last post ….but somehow got offtrack and now the whole debate has fizzled away and I’ve forgotten what I was going to say anyway. …. so.
yeah. so what?
July 13, 2007 at 8:10 am
I’m the third of nine, my parents couldn’t even afford film, much less find time to snap a photo. I feel your pain!
However, I now take pictures of my kids and am sick to death of scrapbooking them! Honestly, I don’t know why I began. But since both my older sisters had baby books, and I did not, I keep going. Insanity.
July 13, 2007 at 8:24 am
Adorable — absolutely adorable!!
July 13, 2007 at 9:07 am
Okay, so I read this whole thing YESTERDAY and oohed and aahed over the cuteness that is the Fuzzles (and cringed a little over the x-ray shot and the RSV story-yikes!) and now I am FINALLY getting a chance to comment!
I was a middle one in my fam, but the first girl, so though I have less than the six zillion photos my oldest brother has of himself, there are certainly more of me than the last few kids got. Surprisingly though, very few photos of my very young cuteness. I can think of one shot of me at like 6 months old, but nothing of me as a tiny baby. Then there aren’t so many between 6 months and about 3 years. I am going to have to ask my Mom if the camera was broken or something….
I’ll tell you though, the best position to be in for photo bliss? Youngest baby after an 8 year gap. There are more photos of Andrew around here than the other two combined. But seriously who wants to take photos of teenage/tweenage angsty faces with eyes rolled to the top of their heads, if you can sneak shots of a cute pudgy wonder who has no front teeth because he knocked them clean out when he was three? It’s really a no brainer. And I am a bear of very little brain…
July 13, 2007 at 10:32 am
can I eat him? seriously, can I?
July 13, 2007 at 10:47 am
My niece was in the hospital for RSV last month. Poor little guy. I absolutely love the Yoda costume. I can totally tell that he’s got “The Force”.
July 14, 2007 at 2:15 am
Yep…a beautiful child indeed.
Now, as to the missing Brillig baby pictures
How sad. I am a picture taking fool. But both of my SILs that have only one child each–a little younger than mine(4yrs)–take very few pictures of their kids. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that some people just aren’t interested in preserving the past. But, I’ll admit…it makes my heart hurt that they won’t be able to go back and look at their babies growing up. And that….is probably my longest comment rambling on about nothing ever–I better get myself to the ER STAT, I might be coming down with something.
July 14, 2007 at 6:53 am
omg he is soooooooo totally cute. Thanks for sharing the pics. I will look forward to seeing more soon.
July 14, 2007 at 10:35 am
Oh, he is so gorgeous! His eyes are like little love darts!
I so know how your sibs feel! And I seriously just typed a whole post in your comment section. I’ll put that on my own blog.
And throw in a little linky love for manners sake.
July 15, 2007 at 2:21 pm
What a sweetie.
I don’t take enough pictures of my youngest either.
We’re off to a Farm Park tomorrow so I promise to take more.
Hope he’s all better now, I’m not sure what RSV is but it sounds nasty.
July 16, 2007 at 1:43 am
Friggin Brackin cute!
